hottub9
Hi all... I have a new B52 23' I am loving surfing but would like some input on how to ballast boat. I dont have any additional weight just the stock ballast tanks. I surf port side. I have been reading about how some people fill the side they surf full or mostly full and the other side half. I would love to hear from others on how they do it. Thanks in advance.. KingMatyas
Kalamazoo
congrats and nice boat. there's always trial and error along with other inputs...altitude, prop, etc. Maybe start w/a 750 or 1100 in surf side locker and 4-500 up front (people or ballast sacs). speed 10.5-11.5ish. full both tanks, get on plane, drain non-surf side until wave cleans up. 23 is a great surf boat, you should dial it in no time (I have the f22 and use 750 in corner and ~500 up front). oh...and pictures please. it didn't happen w/o pics. oldsmobiledriver

hottub9
High 60's to low 70'sounds about right. Water temp will probably be in the high 60's. We are still in the mid 90's now so you never know.

SteeleWake
so...in October in California there's a "polar bear" event? what will the temps be? 74? sheesh... next year should be in Michigan. I know...we have it rough here! Another month or two and we're going to have to break out our springsuits. I've ridden behind both Donseas and MFG's boats...amazing waves and both are great guys to help you if you need advice. Shawndoggy
I'm having trouble seeing the transom in your pic... do you have the cav plate? If not, that's really the key to an "easy" clean 23 surf wave. Then just put an 1100 in the corner surfside and some weight up front (integrated bow sac under the seats or a 400 on the seats) and you'll have a fabulous wave. I usually start with both factory tanks full then bleed off ballast until the surf side cleans up. On port, usually end up with 3/8 to 1/4 depending on how many people we have sitting on the port side. Speed-wise, I'd run 11-12.5.

Shawndoggy
SD will never a miss an opportunity to show off his long tall wave... LOLz just because "dialing" the wave is extremely simple on these boats. Crazy simple. MidnightMax

The Donfather
Ok I have a 23wb. Metalfabgys and I run pretty much the same. Here is mine. I have a X2 sack under seat up front that completly fills 695 I then put a V-drive sack in front walkway Pull cushion 400 Then I fill a surf asck on whatever side we are surfing 1100 Then full factory ballast. Drain non surf side maybe 1/4 to clean up and shape wake. I use plate down about 1/4 to give good clean top of wake. surf 10.8 to 11.4 depending on current. Hope this helps. somepeteguy
LOLz just because "dialing" the wave is extremely simple on these boats. Crazy simple. Quoted for truth. The amount of hand wringing I see regarding weighting is confounding.

hottub9
So If I read all these posts right, I need to add a couple fat sacs on top of my stock ballast to get a great wave. My sweet spot now is real close to the baot and wave does not have much length. It feels like I have a 4'x4' area to surf or I just all off the back. OR maybe I am just a crappy surfer
duster
Definitely more weight fat sacks these boats are amazing and really come to life with additional weight some of the best waves Out there
KingMatyas
Just to reiterate what Shawndoggy said. This is at 11.2 MPH with an 1100 and integrated bow. Stock is 50% non surf and 100% surf. mbalsiger, hottub9 and oldsmobiledriver
hottub9
King that is a Bad A** Wave. I have not been able to build anything that looks like that. I will be at the Polar Bear and would appreciate any help and input from anyone willing. Thanks DonSeas for the offer. See you Saturday. KingMatyas
The B52 23 has been super easy when it comes to wave shaping, as far as I'm concerned. My Goofy is a bit steeper but just as long and clean. I've got two Fly High 1100's for rear lockers, 3 jabsco ballast puppy reversible pumps, and the Fly High integrated bow sac. All plumbed in. Excellent investment. Shawndoggy
