Wake the World is proud to announce a new nationwide campaign called “Lake Love”. This is a lake beautification project. (aka picking up trash). What makes this campaign different is that it involves hash tagging, social media, sponsors & swag!

Here’s the simple explanation of how it works;

  • You pick up trash at the lake
  • Take pictures of you & your friends doing this awesome thing
  • Upload pics to social media
  • Hashtag sponsors
  • Sponsors randomly send you stuff

Our date is set for Saturday, October 17th.

Here’s where I need your help. I have been working with the nationally recognized companies to be sponsors (basically agreeing to give you guys stuff for doing something awesome and hashtagging their company). I need help with getting the local dealers and marinas on board. The more local shops that are involved the more swag that it is available and in turn more people will want to pick up trash. This project will be…

  • Good for the environment
  • Raise awareness
  • Give local shops national attention
  • Introduce more people to Wake the World
  • Good exposure for national sponsors
  • Low cost for sponsors
  • Creates a buzz on social media
  • You get to feel good about doing something awesome

Contact your local shop or marina, ask them to be involved, send them to our website for the details. www.wtwlakelove.org

Our National sponsors so far are: Wake the World, Tige, Centurion, Supreme, ZUP, SeaTow, Above the Wake, Alcoa

I am waiting to hear back from the other boat manufacturers and board companies, no one has said no.

Locally we have: Old North State Marina, Crazy Horse Marina, Lilly’s Bridge Marina, Race City Marine, Grandpa’s Marine, North Point Watersports, Charlotte Ski Boats, Boat Dock Marine, Blueway Paddle & Summit Construction.

Just the facts and not your buddy ( and no thanks on the creepy hug bit, I don't play for that team, not that there is anything wrong with that).

Good luck with your struggle (being able to understand the truth).

Wow, you really have a knack for twisting things in a negative way.

Really? A gay insult?

Truth? No hugs as a child?

Dude seriously, lighten up. No one is impressed.

You continue to be seriously confused lil' buddy.

I have been, and continue to be, "very light."

It's hard to lighten up any more when you continue to make me laugh every time you post.

Please continue!

So yeah, this "major announcement" that was supposedly going to involve me is just a lame East Coast garbage clean up dealio with a focus on positive social media feedback for "sponsors" (how altruistic!!) with the obligatory dose of "ministry" and "outreach."

Pure entertainment...

I'm in for a hug...but I really want to put a shirt on first.

IMHO, when it comes right down to it - what internet forum isn't just plain 'ole pure entertainment?  We all choose a character and act it out.

Just read what is written, get a laugh and move on to the next comic strip.

I've "known" Newty for several years on another forum. He's a good guy and means well.

I am always amazed at those that search for a negative side. A group of boat owners trying to have a positive impact on the environment by trying to organize a nationwide lake clean up day is lame and humorous? WOW... We decided to make it fun and interactive to inspire more people to get involved. Selfies, social media & prizes sounded like a pretty good mix to me. Not sure how you threw ministry & outreach into this lake clean up project.

Instead of bashing, I would like to hear your plan to organize a nationwide lake clean up day so that we can learn from you.

It's called "reality" vs tacky self-promotion by a self-proclaimed bible thumping organization (yeah, there's that goofy ministry and outreach crap right there).

Denying that your focus is on giving local shops "national exposure," "good exposure for national sponsors," asking folks to tag sponsors when they pick up trash, etc. is just more proof of your duplicity and tackiness.

WWJD?

Just I suspected, no ideas only bashing. You certainly are a class act.

Self proclaimed bible thumping? You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. We are not a religous organization. Yes I have MY religous views, I would never deny that. Wake the World events are put on by local boat owners that are wanting to give back. There is no religous agenda.

I really don't care if you think tagging sponsors is tacky. The goal is to get people involved in lake clean up. If sponsors get exposure, who cares? It's all good.

We all are still waiting to hear your plans for organizing a national lake clean up day.

Gentlemen,

First let me say I truly enjoy this forum.  There is great information, helpful advice and often some pretty good humor.  I've also learned there are a lot of quality people here...most recently fhoover who's helping me with stereo tuning and borrowing some gear at no cost.  I've also learned it's easy to make attempts at humor, criticize others and/or generally be silly when working under an alias and never have to say things face to face.

That said...until you know what you're commenting on you run the risk of looking stupid by commenting on it.  Hopefully none of you fall into that trap.

I had the pleasure of learning about, organizing, hosting and participating in the first annual MI WTW event this past July.  I'll also be be a part of 2/3 next year as well.

This organization, Greg and particularly the volunteers are genuinely great and helpful people.  They donate their time, rigs and fuel to help introduce kids to the watersports we love that normally wouldn't have the chance to do so.  Children's homes, homeless shelters and foster families are typical places we find these beautiful crew members.  WTW also works with the physically disabled by getting them on the water with some very specialized equipment to get those who can't even walk behind a boat & on a board.

During my MI event I also met Tom from "Above the Wake", which coordinates with WTW.  They take autistic & similarly affected kids and get them on the water...the days have proven 'therapeutic' and huge for these kids.

To extend our giving philosophy to a water conservation program makes sense to me as I feel there are too many that simply don't care.  I'll take some time (as I already do) to help keep the lake a clean, safe and fun place to be.  You certainly don't have to...but next time you're out maybe you can pitch in by grabbing some floating trash you run across and get it out of the water.

Oh, and yes Greg is a devout christian.  I was raised roman catholic but now go to non-denominational church once every month or two.  My wife was raised methodist.  My kids are somewhere in-between and are being raised to respect others, be humble & kind and to help others. None of that matters as religion isn't part of this cause.  It's about being humble and gracious by giving back to those not as fortunate.

Maybe giving back to the community through WTW events, WTW adaptive, Above the Wake or cleanup days (lake and otherwise) isn't your thing.  No problem as there are plenty of great people out there that will. Hopefully you help with local efforts, do walks for a cure, shoot a homeless guy a fiver or wear pink this month.  If not, no biggie as many others do.  Hopefully one day (if you haven't yet) you get to feel what it's like to help others for no reason other than giving.

I'll chalk up your posts as an attempt at humor on a forum that often is funny.  It just didn't go over that well.

I'm sure you aren't truly trying to disparage those who, in our small ways, are trying to make the world a better place for those who aren't as fortunate as we all are..  You surely have more class than that.

I'll PM you my phone # if you need further explanation.  If you truly want to learn then go check out one of the 30-40 events next year, meet the people donating and the kids participating.  Until then, maybe keep your powder dry until you actually have a good target.

Scott Rachel
