Scotthum
Ok so I am working on installing these valves and figuring out the wiring is driving me nuts I have a 2012 f21 I want to use the switch that came with the valterra valves being it's a on/off and not a momentary like my factory switch. Amy help would be great.
Scotthum
When I pulled the current switchs out I was expecting like 6 wires. But there is way more then that. Lol
Scotthum
I got it figured out. Found the power and ground wires. Then tapped into 3 of the 4 wires running to the back to plug in the valve. Everything works perfect even the light when open Jake (((O))) and oldsmobiledriver
Mucker626
Good deal! you will love these new gate valves
Scotthum
Man I already love them and I have not even got the boat in water. They just feel so much better. And I love the on off switch. Always hated the guessing game. N2DEEP
Scotthum
So just a little tip if anyone else is doing this swap. Once you cut off your old switch there will be a lot of wires. If you look there is a group of 4 wires taped together. Those are the 4 that run back to the valve. You will be using three of those white black and I picked blue. Then out of the rest of the wires you will need the purple for the power and the black for the ground. All the rest of the wires are not needed oldsmobiledriver and bloodiestcadaver
Scotthum
First pic is of the valterra switch and wring just as it comes out of the box. Next pic is of the wires being shorten way down and spliced to the factory mb wires
OrangeTJ
If you have the newer switches, at the valve end of the factory harness it is just two wires - red and white. Just connect the red on the factory side to the white (positive) on the valterra side and the white on the factory side to the black (negative) on the valterra side and you are all set. No need to mess with anything at the switch end - all of that wiring is in the hull compartment with the valves. For me, the hardest part of the install, by far, was managing to get the nuts/bolts back through the flanges and valve and tightened down. Just no room to work. I tried assembling the flanges to the valve and then installing into the hoses but that was a no go. Way too big of an assembly to get back between the hoses. Scotthum
O man that sounds like a way easier install. And yes getting the bolts thru on the valve is such a bitch.
Scotthum
The wiring on the valve side of things was way more simple. oldsmobiledriver
meetloaf13
Did yours stick up this farm the valterra fills the space much more than the OEM part... Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk

Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk I had to mount mine "sideways" so that the actuator runs horizontally rather than vertically. Otherwise no way they'd fit down in the compartment and still be able to open. They work perfectly fine laid over on their sides.
meetloaf13
Yeah, I realized that after finishing the mount job on both...POS! Lol Got one sideways and gave up until tomorrow to finish off the other. Knees are raw and back hurts, haha. OrangeTJ
It is one of those installs that isn't technically difficult but is certainly physically challenging! I think I only managed to get the 4th bolts on the flanges through some divine intervention, LOL. meetloaf13
meetloaf13
For anyone who references this in the future, it helps to loosen the hose clamps so you can rotate the valve and get to the nuts/bolts easier. Still a PITA Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk oldsmobiledriver

fullnelson
Do you have to use the new switches or can you just keep the OEM switches and just do the wiring at the gate?

Maybe this is a dumb question but what did you do with the red wire? And what is the red used for?
volfo
Ok so first thing, great info. Second thing, this scares me a bit. Found another person who showed their wiring at the gate and the photo they showed they had disregarded the black wire . . . but I guess that he was using the factory switches and you were not . . . there may be some trial and error in this job! volfo
Noticed that the valterra gates still have a gap when closed I assume the rubber gaskets keep water from seeping in when closed. I’m sure if they leaked people would be reporting that.
Dirty Sancho
That gap doesn’t look normal to me. I don’t recall a gap in mine. Can you manually close it shut so there is no gap? If that is as far as it goes to being closed (with any gap I would return it for another one.
