rojorick
My 2012 B52 V23 w 350 hrs lost rudder while surfing. Sheared off flush at hull. Didn't hit anything! Anybody have similar problem? Dealer says part unavailable til end of July due to lockdown. Looked online but have no casting number or dimensions as rudder's on bottom of lake. Any suggestions on sourcing would be greatly appreciated.

rojorick
Had a Moomba Mobius for 10 yrs & never a rudder problem. Mind boggling that they would crack so soon. This pic suggests it was cracked for a while. Sbentz101
btbpreston
Go to www.elberts.com and get their phone number and give them a call. They should be able to set you up with the right part

doanythingfordethklok
This happened to my 2017 22ft tomcat today. Exact same situation. It just fell off while surfing. Prop fine, just lost steering.
rojorick
Sorry to hear that. Cecil Elbert knows his rudders: 503-864-4151. Stock rudder has brass post, Elbert's is stainless steel. Cost $790 shipped, installed myself. adam4x4

I'm crossing my fingers this is covered since the boat is not very old and rudders shouldn't break. I've heard of rudders being bent in half and not even break. Cali Wake Surf
Looks like I joined the 'Lost Rudder Club' - was wake surfing a month ago and it just snapped off and fell to the bottom of the lake. MB won't have any in stock until end of June, but I was able to source one from Elberts and when it arrived at the dealer they said it was the wrong one claiming it needs to have a 3.5 inch post instead of 4.5 inches. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I called Bryan at Elbert's back and they don't even make 3.5 inch posts. Any suggestions?

Cali Wake Surf
Thanks Rojorick. Were you able to use the new rudder from Elberts? What I learned is that in 2015 when MB moved to Ford engines, they changed the rudder to the 3.5 inch post due to clearance issues. MB placed an order 2 weeks and is expecting to receive them by end of June.
rojorick
Despite the machined pinch bolt channel on top of shaft, Elbert's works fine. Good luck!
‘14F22ATL
I am now a proud member of the lost rudder club as well. Rojorick, quick ? for you. Does the extra inch of shaft mean that the entire rudder blade and shaft assembly will slid down or out until the tiller arm rests on the nylon seal? how were you able to keep the shaft and blade snug against the hull? do you have any pics of the marine hardware rudder (from elberts) installed? Thanks, SW
rojorick
My condolences for your loss '14F22ATL. In my 30yrs of boating I've never heard of rudders randomly falling off until mine did. Sold my B52 to Laken Water Sports in Phoenix. You can see it now on their website. Elbert's rudder fit perfectly despite the slight difference in shaft length and machined bolt-channel placement. No modifications were needed to install. Good luck! billwil
Just happened to me today in my 2016 B52! Sheared off at the hull. Amazing. My question is, I’ve never changed a rudder before. Is this all done from below the boat by pulling the housing or does one need to find access under the engine somehow? Any tips would be appreciated. I’ve done a bunch of things to boats, but never this so not sure how this job is done. Thanks, all.
gordonjt79
Count me in as a member of the club as well... 2016 F22 Tomcat. This is obviously a manufacturing defect and MB should step-up an make it right, IMHO. Please can anyone give some pointers on how to remove the broken one and replace it? THANKS! Darren
Well, unfortunately we joined the club as of this weekend. Looks like it was cracked for some time. Many decades of boating of boating, never seen an epic part failure like this. Sad…. Elbert’s is just a 3hr drive away so hoping they have the part in stock. Our season is ending soon☹️
