BTown801
I've seen tons posts that say to tow cover off and I've also seen tons of posts that say they've had seats blow out on the highway. Has anyone thought of a strap system to hold onto the seats if they lift out of place? Also PSA remove your small black plastic trays that are between the cup holders when you tow cover off, they blow out.
oboyskibum
Any time I am pulling over an hour I tow cover on. I use blue tape or saran wrap around the edge of the cover or rub points so the boat isn't scratch or seats worn. I had to buy a new cover after it was blown out along the freeway it was in a stuff bag under the front cushion to start the trip. bloodiestcadaver and Birddog7.62
mxvet
I tow with the cover(s) - either tower down or up cover (yes, I have both) 95% of the time and have done so with all my previous MBs. Never a problem and I would challenge you to find a mark made by the cover. The key is to ratchet it on super tight,,,, I mean you can't hardly get another click Birddog7.62, bloodiestcadaver and gavin218

But I would crank the hell out of that thing

The first time I towed to Lake Powell I had the cover on and ended up with rub marks on the bow....so the next time I towed with the cover off and just took the cushion that is the bow filler and the back middle seat cushion and put them in the rear lockers, all the other cushions are on hinges so no problem at all and no more rub marks!! bloodiestcadaver
Birddog7.62
shrink wrap is your friend. always tow cover on if going any distance.
schill38
What parts of the boat do you wrap? Any pics, I'm interested in this as I go to Powell 3-4 times a year. bloodiestcadaver

I would wrap the top of the windshield, mine got worn from towing and rubbed off the little silver finish. also if the tower up cover is used, i would wrap the tower base where it attaches. Smokey
Agree - stretch wrap from Home Depot works great. Birddog7.62
Guppydriver
Costco has a kirkland brand 12" X 3000' for $15 bucks that I know guys use as well for wrapping boats for distance travel. I'm thinking of getting some rock tamers for my truck to help keep the boat unblemished when I tow as well. Anyone else use them?
BTown801
@Guppydriver I have a set of rock tamers new in the box on my garage floor. I plan to use them on my Tundra. I was disappointed to see "Made in China" on the side of the box... My pickle fork on my Tomcat is going to be a bit harder to wrap. But I will give it a shot. On my old boat I didn't and my trailer got a ton of rock chips, the boat got a few but not as many as the trailer. I have used rock tamers since I bought this boat and the trailer has maybe one or two chips and the boat none, they are well worth price!! Plus I actually hated how my truck looked with the mudflaps from the dealer so I love that when I'm not towing I can just take them off! Just use the blue painters tape around the edge on the F22 that's what Used most of the time on mine. It probably costs a little more but its easier to store in the truck. I mean you know what B.O.A.T. stands for!! Before I bought my first boat my dad told me, grab a $100 bill, scrunch it up and drop it in the toilet...if you can flush it you are ready to buy a boat haha! BTown801
I realized that I have 4x 50 lb lead bags in my boat. Put a towel on each of the rear seats and put a lead bad on each rear seat. Traveled home from Powell with peace of mind.
Craig
If I’m towing without the cover on I’ll usually put the air dam in. It helps block all that wind from blowing stuff around, especially the seat cushions. AZ_MB and BTown801
Guppydriver
Just towed to Havasu.. about 8 hours. Cover on/ Tower Up Used Costco X Large Saran wrap Taking the cover off was like when someone in the movies gets the bandage off their face after a bad accident... Turned out well. Didn't notice anything! Wrapping it was a pain in the ass though...it was windy and I did it solo. My try the painters tape next time. Also...when I try to ratchet super tight, it just comes unhooked at the side buckles with a loud pop. I still got it tight...but not as tight as it could have been. oboyskibum
bloodiestcadaver
I tried the wrap before I left Havasu this week. I didn't try hard but I ended up only wrapping the tower base and using painters tape on the windshield. No issues coming back.
Disco
I cut pool noodles lengthwise and line the top of the windshield frame, use blue tape to hold them in place, and then the cover (furniture/saran wrap as well). This protects both the cover and the windshield frame from rubbing. Been doing this for years with zero issues. Birddog7.62
